Red Pandas
We were blown away by our first red panda encounter at the Amsterdam zoo in 1975, and now we have amassed a large collection of red panda stuff, including hundreds of photographs and clippings, plush toys, mugs, pins, hangings, t-shirts, and even a mask. We were thrilled when the Franklin Park Zoo joined the red panda species survival plan, and we adopted Dacey, their first. Dacey was about three years old when he made his debut in his enclosure on April 16, 2004, and we were there to greet him. Unfortunately Dacey's short life ended on September 16, 2004, through no fault of the Zoo's. In Spring 2005, Dacey's brother Pemba arrived, and he left for New Jersey in Spring 2007, to make way for a breeding male, Yang, whom we hope will find a mate in 2008. We will continue to support the Zoo and its participation in the species survival plan for this most wonderful of animals.
