Chapter Meeting Minutes

September 13, 2005

The 19 members present were: Arun Sannuti, Emily Belanger, Alex Manley, Michael Klein, Bobbie Sproat, Debbie Weiss, Aubrey Hiers, Jennifer Lege, Sarah Hudson, Olivia Gatti, Nicole Slavin, Bill Sloan, Paul Hoffman, Diane Post, Julka Grodel, Katie Brennan, Rebecca Metzger, Dixie Foster, and Kjersten Elias.

Attendees introduced themselves and signed the sign-in sheet.

Kjersten, chapter chair, gave an outline of ASIS&T as a national organization, what it does and who its members are and then introduced the student chapter and its officers. The chair then announced the following upcoming chapter events:

Times, dates, and locations for all events can be found on the chapter website.

Kjersten asked if anyone had any suggestions for information professionals with interesting jobs who might be willing to speak at the Careers event. Dixie suggested someone on the Simmons GSLIS mentoring list.

The chapter then discussed the ASIS&T Annual Meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina. Student members can volunteer to help run the conference, in return receiving complementary registration. The deadline to apply for student volunteer opportunities is September 20th.

Diane Post followed up on her fall event: a tour of the MIT Media Lab. She has the contact information of the person who can arrange tours. That person is out of the office this week but will be around next week, at which time Diane will contact her.

The chapter website is now up and running (with only minor tweaking needed). Attendees were encouraged to visit it and see the new look of Simmons ASIS&T.

In related news, Frances McConihe converted ASIS&T national's Student Chapter Guidelines into a web-enabled form. Many thanks to Frances for doing such a lovely job.

Action points were decided and the meeting was adjourned.

Meeting Action Points:
  1. The chair will check the mentoring list and contact the appropriate parties.
  2. Diane will contact the MIT Media Lab and attempt to arrange a tour for Simmons ASIS&T.
