PLG and ASIS&T introduce the GSLIS Skill Share

September 16, 2006 from 10am until 4pm

The Simmons' Progressive Librarians Guild (PLG) and Simmons' American Society for Information Science & Technology (ASIS&T) will be co-hosting the first Simmons College GSLIS skill share on Saturday September 16th. We would like to extend an invitation to each of you to join in as teachers and/or students at the event.

Additionally we will also have two keynote speakers heading in from NYC. They are Jenna and Eric from Radical Reference (http://www.radicalreference.info) who take care of the front and back end of the alternative, online (and sometimes in the streets) reference source. They will be speaking about the history, present use and future of Radical Reference, librarianship and the open-source software they use for conducting online reference assistance.

The skill share is free to all and open to all who are interested. The event will take place on Saturday September 16th from 10am to 4 pm here at Simmons College. We are anticipating four one-hour time slots for student taught workshops and Radical Reference's presentation with a light lunch.

Please peruse the GSLIS elective offerings and email Lana (thelen@simmons.edu) with the courses you are interested in either teaching or learning. Additionally, if you are learning/have a LIS related skill not offered through the elective course offerings, i.e. news librarianship, let us know too.

We are requesting that a lesson plan be submitted by September 1st. This is so we have a clear picture of who wants to teach what, and can disperse the different course offerings throughout the day.
