Everybody needs a 'weeknight' meal to keep them safe. Whether you're a student, living on a budget, a single parent—or just too busy to be spending so much time and brain power in the middle of your schedule—this recipe will get you the perfect way between gourmet and lazy.
Ingredients
- 1/3–1/2 jar of marinara sauce
- 1/3 cup finely-diced onions
- 1/4 cup finely-chopped carrots
- 1/4 cup finely-chopped celery
- 1–2 oz of ground beef
- 1/2 oz of ground pork (optional)
- Just a splash of heavy cream
- A slab of butter, for greasing
- Salt and grated parmesian cheese to taste
Instructions
- Briefly warm butter in a saucepan.
- Add in vegetables. Cook at medium-low heat until onions caramelize and celery loses structure.
- Add ground meat(s). Cook until all parts of the meat are browned, breaking up and turning over as you go.
- Here, you can season the meat and veggies with a pinch of salt and/or pepper.
- Pour in marinara sauce. Reduce heat to low.
- Cook until sauce thickens and ingredients start to fall apart. Ideally, takes ~30 minutes. Use lid to retain as moisture for as long as possible.
- Splash with heavy cream and dust with parmesian to taste. Note: parmesian will have an extra thickening effect if used too much.
- Serve over pasta of your choice!
