DPT Bridge Library INFO STOPS
GETTING WHAT YOU NEED
I have searched the databases and have a list of citations. I would like to get the articles in full text. What do I do?
While you are searching in the database you can click on the ArticleNow link
at the end of each citation to see what alternatives are available to you.
- You may be able to retrieve the full text from another database
- The article may be in a journal held at the library in which case you can request it through the Interlibrary Loan form - the link to the form will be present in the AskNow window
- If Simmons doesn't own or have access to the article you can request it through the Interlibrary Loan form and we will find a copy for you and send it to you
How long will it take to get my Interlibrary Loan request?
The answer here is, "It depends."
- If you are requesting an item that Simmons owns it will take us a day to process the request and you will either receive a scanned article in your e-mail within a couple of days or a book via regular mail within 7-10 days.
- Requests for items not owned by Simmons will take about 3-5 days for an article and 7-10 days for a book to reach us plus the additional postage time to reach you. Where possible we will scan and e-mail electronic copies of articles to you.
I received an e-mail from the Interlibrary Loans Department telling me the item I requested is in the library and I must come there to use it. I live out of state and this is not possible. What can I do?
The Interlibrary Loans department does not fill requests for items the library owns and will send a form e-mail to the requestor. The exception to this is for DPT students. To avoid receiving the form e-mail make sure to indicate in the notes field of the form that you are a DPT Bridge student.
I submitted 12 requests to Interlibrary Loan and so far I have only received five. Why is this?
Interlibrary Loan is a high volume service and can only accept and process five requests per patron per week. All requests must be made on the ILL form to ensure quick processing.
I don't have time to wait for Interlibrary Loan. How can I get the material faster?
You can check WorldCat to see what libraries in your area own the particular book or journal you need. You may not be able to borrow the item but you can probably go to that library and copy or use the item there.
It is difficult to keep track of the items I need to read and request. Is there any kind of system for organizing my citations and readings?
Yes! When you log into the Interlibrary Loan form you have the ability to see the items you have already requested and check on their status. For managing your citations and assistance with bibliographic detail you can use RefWorks. This is a web based tool which allows you to import citations directly from databases and later when you are ready, generate a bibliography in APA or any style you choose.
