To the Businesses of Boston:
For National Chemistry Week, the Simmons College Chemistry-Physics Liaison is hosting an event designed to demonstrate the immensity of one mole, which is a unit of measurement in chemistry. Our goal is to bring the excitement of science to the Simmons community and the people of Boston.
For our Mole Day event, we are giving ten stickers to one person. That person then gives nine of their stickers away. With a sticker, those nine people also receive a flyer with instructions to a table at Simmons College. There they can pick up ten more stickers from us, which they hand out to ten new people. As more and more people get involved, the event will grow, demonstrating the impact of the powers of ten. On Mole Day, the event will culminate in an exhibit at the Museum of Science. The Museum has generously agreed to allow us to use their lobby to set up the display, which will visually illustrate the sheer number of people we have reached using the powers of ten.
Our goal is to reach as many people as possible in the greater Boston area. The table where community members can pick up their stickers will be set up from October 17th – 22nd. We would to like to thank people for participating by giving away awesome prizes. When they come to the table, their sticker acts as a raffle ticket. The drawing will be held at the Museum of Science on Mole Day, October 23rd.
We are a student-run organization at a small all-women’s college dedicated to sharing our passion for chemistry and physics with the community. We want to combat the idea that science is intimidating, and we hope that this activity will show that it can be fun and awe-inspiring. However, we don’t have the funds to take on a project of this magnitude without your help.
We hope that you are willing to help us make this exciting event a reality. We would appreciate a donation for the raffle prizes. To show our gratitude for your generosity, we will put your name on our liaison t-shirts. During National Chemistry Week, we will be wearing the shirts to advertise the event and to show everyone that the businesses of Boston support education and women in science.
Thank you,
The Simmons College Chemistry-Physics Liaison
