The national library of Cambodia, the Bibliotheque Nationale was founded in
1923 in Phnom Pehn as a national depository library. A recent estimate of
the number of volumes in the library is 55,000 volumes, mostly in French. An
ordinance of 1956 requires publishers to deposit five copies of all works
published in the national library, and printers are obligated to deposit
three copies.
