National Library Services:
The People's National Library, established in 1971,
is not a national library in the classical sense. It is a deposit and research
library but at the same time serves as the main locus of public reading, whence
its title as a people's library. The People's National Library benefits from a
type of legal deposit obligation placed on bookstores that import books.
(There are no publishing houses.) Its collection comprise principally novels,
paperback books, and some research or popular works. The library also has 53
periodical titles, plus some films and prints. The areas represented are literature,
humanities, social sciences, and science.
Founded: 1971, Volumes: 15,000 (7,000 in branches).
