Mozambique, an independent republic, on the southeast coast of Africa, is bordered oil the north by Tanzania, on the cast by the Indian Ocean, n the South by Swaziland and South Africa, and on the west by Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Malawi Population (1984 est.) 13,210,000 area 799,380 sq.km. The official language is Portuguese; Bantu languages are widely spoken.


The National Library of Mozambique, founded in Maputo in 1961, houses about 110,000 volumes. Mozambique does not issue a national bibliography of its own, but bibliographical references to publications of or about Mozambique are listed in the Boletim de la Bibliografia Portuguesa.
