There is no national library in Sierra Leone. In its absence, the Sierra Leone Library Board performs certain national
library functions. The Publications Ordinance of 1962 designated the library operated
by the Library Board as one of two copyright libraries (the other is Fourah Bay College
Library in Freetown, the capital), and it produces an annual list of publications. Though
not a national bibliography, since it is not a comprehensive list of titles published in
Sierra Leone, the list is useful in providing information mostly on titles published by the
Government Printing Office. The Sierra Leone Government Archives preserves and
manages the country's important historical documents. It makes these records
accessible to researchers, government officials, and the general public.
