


Digital Equipment Corporation
In June 1977, Prof. Chen made a proposal to the Digital Equipment
Corporation for the support of an innovative program in library
education. As a result, the Simmons College Graduate School of
Library and Information Science receivedan educational award of 6
DECWRITER terminals to enable the School to expand the offering of
online bibliographical searching in many courses. This also marked
the beginning of her collaboration with DEC.
In 1983 when Dr. Chen was awarded the major grant from the
National Endowment for Humanities' Humanity in Libraries Program
for her interactive videodisc work related to The First Emperor of
China, DEC was the first high-tech company supported her R&D
work with 3 sets of the latest IVIS.
