Message from Dr. Mengxiong Liu


Dr. Chen is Professor and Associate Dean of the Graduate School of Library and Information Science, Simmons College, Boston. She has authored and edited more than 26 books and 100 journal articles. She has held numerous positions with ALA, LITA, ASIS, and the like. Having served as councilor-at-Large for the three terms (1981-93), and Director of the Board of ASIS(1982-84) and LITA (1990-93), she is nominated a candidate for the President-elect of the ALA for 1996.

Dr. Chen has directed many R&D projects, including the internationally recognized PROJECT EMPEROR-I. She is the creator of the interactive videodisk product, The First Emperor of China, which won the coveted Cindy Award of the Association for the Visual Communicators; the multimedia CD-ROM version for the same title was selected by MacUser as one of the "Best 50 CD-ROMs" available.

Dr. Chen is known for her tireless work in global connectivity among libraries and information professionals around the world in the past two dozen years. Since 1987, she has been Chief Organizer of a series of New Information Technology (NIT) conferences in many parts of the world.

She is recipient of many awards, including the Outstanding Information Science Teacher Award (1983), LITA/Gaylord Award for Achievement in Library and Information Technology (1990), LITA/Library HiTech Award (1994). She was also elected as Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (1995).
