We are pleased to announce that "The First Emperor of China", together with "Guernica," "National Geographic Society GTV," "Ice Run," and "Mandala Systems," was selected among sixty application projects for debut presentation at the TECH 2000 Preview Reception at the new TechWorld Plaza, Washington DC on November 28, 1989. Simmons' PROJECT EMPEROR-I is one of the very few university related project selected for this permanent Gallery of Interactive Multimedia housed at the new TechWorld Conference Center in Washington DC and sponsored by the Interactive Video Industry Association, to be opened to general public from January 1, 1990 on. TECH 2000 is an interactive showcase for exciting cutting-edge interactive technology applications. It invites the public "to explore the future here and now - to touch and see how the computer and television combine to inform, educate and communicate how we live, learn, work and play." Dr. Ching-chih Chen, Professor and Associate Dean of the School, and Project Director of PROJECT EMPEROR-I, reports that TECH 2000 provides a high-profile center for the display and interpretation of emerging technologies, with an emphasis on interactive systems and media. At this gallery, technologies and programs are featured within the context of the environments in which they are used: the home, workplace, learning center, and cultural center. IVIA projects that TECH 2000 will have over one million visitors a year.
