Advanced Preferences
- Manage Fonts: If activated, Linotype FontExplorer X uses the specified folder to manage all fonts on your computer (excluding the System Fonts). If not activated, fonts are not managed and stay in their original location.
- Copy: With this option selected, all fonts will be copied to the Linotype FontExplorer X font folder. Thus, the font files will still be present in their original location.
- Move: With this option selected, all fonts will be moved to the Linotype FontExplorer X font folder. Thus, the font files will be removed from their original location.
To reset the location where fonts are copied or moved, click "Reset". Old fonts will not be moved.
To change the location where fonts are copied or moved, click "Change...". Old fonts will not be moved.
To move or copy all fonts currently loaded in Linotype FontExplorer X (excluding the System Fonts) to the current selected directory, click "Move now" or "Copy now".
- Activate fonts (Mac OS X 10.3 "Panther" only): Use this option to determine whether activated fonts will be activated permanently (permanent) or until the next system restart only (until restart). In Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger" activated fonts stay activated after a system restart automatically.
- Removing fonts from FontExplorer X will deactivate them: With this option enabled, fonts will be deactivated if they are deleted from Linotype FontExplorer X. If you leave them activated, but remove them from Linotype FontExplorer X, they will be imported again upon the next start of Linotype FontExplorer X.
- Removing a Set or a Folder from FontExplorer X will also remove contained fonts from other Sets, Folders and Collections: This option affects fonts that are contained in several sets. With this option enabled, removing a set or a folder will remove all contained fonts from other Sets, Folders and Collections.
- Deactivating a Set or a Folder won't deactivate fonts contained in other Sets, Folders or Collections: With this option enabled, fonts contained in the deactivated Set or Folder will not be deactivated in other Sets, Folders, or Collections.
- Deactivate all fonts which have been activated during the active session on quit: With this option enabled, all activated fonts since the application startup will be deactivated (= temporary activation).
- QuarkXPress 6.5 font-activation support: In order to resolve font-activation issues specific to QuarkXPress 6.5, Linotype FontExplorer X needs to activate fonts using a slower process. Enable this option only if you're using QuarkXPress 6.5. This is not required for QuarkXPress 7.
- Admin-Free mode: If enabled and with the Administrator password once entered, you will be able to perform the following operations without entering a password: 1. Clean system font caches, 2. Clean application font caches, 3. Clean System Fonts folders. Please note that this mode will be automatically disabled after installing an update of Linotype FontExplorer X.
- Use FontExplorer X as default handler for font files: If enabled, double-clicking a font file in the Finder will open this font with Linotype FontExplorer X. If disabled, the font will be opened with Apple's FontBook or another installed font management software.
