You will find 7 new iMacs with Intel processors located in LEF321.
Operating System Upgrade
You will find OS X 10.4 (Tiger) is the new operating system on the Comm Lab computers. Tiger comes with some exciting new features such as Spotlight and Dashboard. Don't worry if you haven't used it before. It is still very similar to the previous operating system.

Font Management
We are no longer using Font Reserve for font management. Starting this semester, we will be using Linotype FontExplorer X. FontExplorer has a lot of great features to make it easier for you to manage fonts. In your account, you will be able to use Sets to organize the fonts in any ways that makes sense to you. The changes you make to the sets will carry over from computer to computer. You may also import your own fonts, but the fonts will not carry over from computer to computer. Please see the FontExplorer help documentation for information on how to use FontExplorer.
Printing
- HP LaserJet 8150n
- You may print to the HP LaserJet 8150 from any computer in the labs by selecting "CommLab BW LaserJet" as your printer.
- HP Color LaserJet 3800
- We now have a color laserjet printer for use in the labs. It will print on paper up to 8.5x14. All prints are on bright white paper and cost $0.25 each. You may print to the color laserjet from any computer in the labs by selecting "CommLab Color LaserJet" as your printer. This printer is password protected. Please ask the Lab Monitor on duty to enter the password.
- HP OfficeJet K850 and Epson Stylus Photo 20000
- These two printers are now located on the counter in LEF321. Please refer to the Printer Pricing chart for printing costs. You may print to them from any computer in the labs by selecting either "HP k850" or "Stylus_Photo_2000P(AT)" as your printer. These printers are password protected. Please ask the Lab Monitor on duty to enter the password.
- Epson Stylus C80
- This printer is now located in LEF320. Please refer to the Printer Pricing chart for printing costs. You may print it from any computer in the labs by selecting "Stylus_C80(AT)" as your printer. This printer is password protected. Please ask the Lab Monitor on duty to enter the password.
- Amazon Printer
- The Amazon printer (Epson Stylus 7500) is available to print large format posters (bigger than 13x19). Please speak to either Alissa Miller or Briana Martino if you would like to use this printer. Be advised that this printer takes a long time to print. If you want to use it, plan ahead. Printing is by appointment only.
Lab Policy Changes
There is no longer any food or drink allowed in the Comm Labs (LEF320 and LEF321). Please eat in the student lobby.
The center tables in LEF321 are available for cutting and mounting projects. Remember to use a cutting mat. Please do not cut anything at the outer tables, near the computers. There is also a table available to cut on inthe hallway outside of the Conference room (near the elevator).
