High Quality Printing
What printer should I use?
The Communications Labs house two color inkjets, one color laserJet, and one black and white printer. Each printer has different features and capabilities. Refer to the printing posters on the wall above the printers to determine which printer best suits your needs.
If Using Quark, Check Usage
Before printing from Quark, make sure that Quark can locate all images and fonts by going to Utilities > Usage. If the status of a picture is “missing” or “modified”, click Update and follow the instructions.
Printer and Page Setup Settings
In order to print a high quality print, you must be sure to select the right paper type and print quality in the Printer and Page Setup dialogue windows.

The process for opening the Standard OS X Print Window may be deferent depending on which application you are using. See the Finding the Standard OS X Print Window guide for more information on each application.
Once in the Standard OS X Print Window follow these steps:
- Select the printer you would like to use from the
Printerfield. - If printing on one of the inkjet printers, specify the Paper Type and Quality settings for your printer.
Note: Each printer has a slightly different Print Settings interface.
Print Settings by Printer
Each printer has a slightly different Print Settings interface. Chose from the list below to view screenshots and instructions from each printer.
Epson Stylus Pro 3800
- Make sure that the StylusPro3800 is selected from the
Printerfield.
- From the
Copies & Pagesdrop down menu, select Print Settings
- From the
Media Typefield, select the appropriate paper type for your print. If your exact paper is shown, select that, otherwise select the closest possible match.
- From the
Modefield, click theAdvanced Settingsradio button. - From the
Print Qualityfield, select the appropriate print quality. In general, the higher quality you select, the longer it will take to print.
- Adjust any other desired settings.
- Click Print.
Epson Stylus Photo 2000
- Make sure that the StylusPhoto2000P is selected from the
Printerfield. - From the
Copies & Pagesdrop down menu, select Print Settings

- From the
Media Typefield, select the appropriate paper type for your print. If your exact paper is shown, select that, otherwise select the closest possible match.

- From the
Modefield, click theAdvanced Settingsradio button. - From the
Print Qualityfield, select the appropriate print quality. In general, the higher quality you select, the longer it will take to print.

- Adjust any other desired settings.
- Click Print.
