Simmons SOM Alumnae Association Champagne Reception and Annual Meeting

The Simmons SOM Alumnae Association (SOMAA) Board of Directors invites you to join them at this year's Champagne Reception and Annual Meeting. This is the best attended SOM alumnae event of the year, and alums from all over the US (and even overseas) will be there. Join alumnae, students, faculty, and friends at this terrific event which takes place annually on the eve of the SOM Leadership Conference. Delicious food, live music, and wonderful company await! This is a fantastic networking opportunity for current students. The SOMAA will highlight results of the "Face of the Alumnae" project, a joint collaboration between the Alumnae Association and the SOM.

EXECUTIVE IN RESIDENCE-2 STUDENT EVENTS
Seating is limited for students at both Executive in Residence events, so it is important to RSVP early. If we have more students interested than spaces available, Mary D will have a lottery.

SIGNATURE TALK 6-7:30pm, March 2
On March 2, Carmen Baez is our 2005 Executive-in-Residence. Ms. Baez is President, Latin America at Diversified Agency Services (DAS), a division of Omnicom Group, the world’s leading marketing communications company. She will speak at the Simmons School of Management Signature Event on the topic of Women, Leadership, and Great Organizations.

Ms. Baez, an alumna of Simmons College, is responsible for the development and growth of DAS operating companies in the regions of Central and South America, including worldwide leading agencies such as Rapp Collins, Fleishman-Hillard, Ketchum, Interbrand, and Porter Novelli International. She also oversees all DAS multicultural marketing initiatives in the US marketplace.
Through the lens of her own extensive experience in leading multinational organizations, Ms. Baez will discuss the meaning and importance of true leadership, the impact of organizational dynamics on personal and business goals, and the particular challenges women face as they climb to the top rungs of organizations. She will also address what the phrase "people are the most important assets in an organization" really means as she examines how “good” organizations hold themselves accountable to treating their employees as their most valuable assets, and how “bad” organizations go wrong. On March 3, from 7:30-9am, two students will moderate a student only breakfast with Carmen in a small, personal setting. She wants it to be a lively, no question barred conversation about her career, the markerting communications industry, or any other questions that students want to ask her. On March 17, 2005, the SOM will host its second Executive in the Classroom event featuring Neal Yanofsky, Executive Vice President & Chief Administrative Officer of Panera Bread. On March 21, 2005, the SOM and CGO are hosting the fourth event in the Leading Women Entrepreneurs (LWE) events series. Titled "Forging New Ground: Opportunities and Challenges for Women of Color Entrepreneurs," there will be a panel of 6 national experts speaking about the latest research findings and case studies that highlight the internal and external opportunities, strategies, and challenges that are integral to the way women of color entrepreneurs design, operate, and grow their businesses for themselves and for their communities. Forum USA
For those interested in working internationally:
The Office for Science and Technology at the Embassy of France in the United States holds the yearly "Forum USA". This event provides an opportunity to bring together students and French companies. Over the years, this event has evolved into the most significant recruitment forum of its kind in North America.

The Forum lasts one week. In the course of Forum USA 2004, 1100 recent university graduates met with representatives from 40 French companies, associations and research institutes. Thanks to the Forum USA, recruiters issued more than 150 jobs and internship offers and selected more than 325 candidates for second-round interviews.

Forum USA is originally focused on students specialized in engineering and hard sciences - cf. the statistics regarding the candidates who attended Forum USA 2004. As we did last year we have widened our focus to include candidates having an MBA to better respond to recruiters' needs. Similarly, newly arrived non-French candidates will likely comprise 25-35% of forum attendants.

Forum USA 2005 will be held consecutively in Boston (April 2, 3 &4) and San Francisco (April 6 & 7). The Forum USA will make candidates' resumes available to the exhibitors and will schedule interviews for them.

Candidates can register for the event through our website at www.forumusa.org until February 15th 2005. Note that Forum USA offers a free night in the hotel the night before the event for the first 100 registrants for Boston and the first 60 registrants for San Francisco (candidates must live at least 60 miles from the Forum to be eligible).
