NOTE
FROM MARY D "Nothing is as real as a dream. The world can change around you, but your dream will not. Responsibilities need not erase it. Duties need not obscure it. Because the dream is within you, no one can take it away."--Unknown "Learn the art of patience. Apply discipline to your thoughts when they become anxious over the outcome of a goal. Impatience breeds anxiety, fear discouragement and failure. Patience creates confidence, decisiveness and a rational outlook, which eventually leads to success."--Brian Adams Noel

Schedule Changes & Course Information Summer Registration Information *Summer registration opens today, March 3 at 9am and will remain open until March 18 at 8pm. *The MBA office has printed syllabi of all courses previously offered at the SOM. Students are welcome to look at these syllabi to better inform your elective choices. New syllabi are not due until April 1. WebCT is scheduled to go live on April 15th. We are also trying to move an electronic copy into the WebCT Student Resources pages to make it even easier for you, we will let you know if we are able to do it!! *Strategic
Decision Making (SDM) *Contemporary Issues in Marketing will have NO Class on June 17th and WILL run on June 10th. This will eliminate the conflict with LGA. *Analytical
Decision Making will have class NO class on July 14th and class
WILL run on July 7. This will eliminate the conflict with BGGE. Since this course has no prerequisites, students may be in different stages of the program. Despite the different stages, there will still be somewhat of a level playing field since this course doesn't build on any other course and hasn't been addressed in any other course. It is also not focused on a discipline; it is focused on a tool which is decision-making. This tool is important to all managers regardless of the industry or discipline. With
15 years of teaching experience and a ton of practical experience, you
will find this class to be enjoyable, enriching, and the discussions
managed well. Professor Yanofsky has offered to speak with anyone who
has additional questions. Please contact him at neal.yanofsky@panerabread.com
or 781.449.4862 x7364. Additionally, if you would like to see him in
action, join us at the next Executive in the Classroom event on March
17th, 4:00pm. SCHEDULE

Forum USA The Forum lasts one week. In the course of Forum USA 2004, 1100 recent university graduates met with representatives from 40 French companies, associations and research institutes. Thanks to the Forum USA, recruiters issued more than 150 jobs and internship offers and selected more than 325 candidates for second-round interviews. Forum USA is originally focused on students specialized in engineering and hard sciences - cf. the statistics regarding the candidates who attended Forum USA 2004. As we did last year we have widened our focus to include candidates having an MBA to better respond to recruiters' needs. Similarly, newly arrived non-French candidates will likely comprise 25-35% of forum attendants. Forum USA 2005 will be held consecutively in Boston (April 2, 3 &4) and San Francisco (April 6 & 7). The Forum USA will make candidates' resumes available to the exhibitors and will schedule interviews for them. Candidates can register for the event through our website at www.forumusa.org until February 15th 2005. Note that Forum USA offers a free night in the hotel the night before the event for the first 100 registrants for Boston and the first 60 registrants for San Francisco (candidates must live at least 60 miles from the Forum to be eligible). |

The Simmons School of Management was a source of information on the challenges facing women executives as HP CEO Carly Fiorina announced her resignation. Acting Dean Deborah Merrill-Sands contributed comments to the February 10th editions of both Newsday and Boston Herald, stating that what happened to Fiorina happens to many CEOs in the field, but the visibility of women CEOs and their work is heightened because there are so few in their ranks. SOM Professor Stacy Blake-Beard was quoted in the January issue of Workforce Management in the article “Lessons from the Donald.” Blake-Beard says The Apprentice’s message is to look out for yourself above all else, and that, in reality, organizations promote the star. Mary Finlay SOM ’90, deputy chief information officer at Partners HealthCare System, received one of 10 New England Business and Technology Association awards. The NEBATA awards program recognizes New England business and technology leaders who have made a significant impact in developing or deploying technologies that address critical business issues while contributing to the region’s prosperity. Ann Fudge, Chairman & CEO of Young and Rubicam Brands and former SOM Executive in Residence, was featured in the February issue of Black Enterprise magazine as one of the 75 most powerful African Americans in Corporate America.
