UPDATES ON RESCHEDULED CLASSES DUE TO DEAN’S DECISION TO CANCEL CLASSED DURING DNC WEEK IN BOSTON-JULY 26-29

SOM Latina Club Meeting

General Information

GRADUATION UPDATES
Due to the canceling of classes the week the DNC is in Boston, the final graduation meeting will be moved to precede the final Strategy class on Thursday, July 22.

Ballots for class speaker, marshals and leadership awards will be done electronically this year via the graduation Webct site. An email will be going out by the end of the week announcing the ballots are ready! Voting needs to be completed by June 11.

Graduation announcements will be available in mid July for all graduating students. This is different from the graduation invitation.

GRADUATION SPEAKER ANNOUNCED
The Dean has announced that Marie Wilson has accepted her invitation to deliver the graduation remarks. Ms. Wilson was president of the Ms. Foundation for 20 years, a foundation that has an endowment of 16 million dollars. She was also responsible for the “Take Your Daughters to Work” initiative. She is currently president of the White House Project, a nonpartisan organization founded to put more women into leadership. A full bio will be out shortly.

FALL REGISTRATION
Registration for Fall 2004 classes will be in mid July.

CHANGE IN JUNE 23 DEAN’S ROUNDTABLE DATE
The Dean has agreed to move her June 23 roundtable with students to June 30 to clear the time for the first graduation meeting. Signups will be on the Mockler bulletin board.

DEAN'S SUMMER TERM ROUNDTABLES
The Dean will host open meeting with students on the following dates:
June 8, 5-6pm
June 14, 5-6pm
June 23, 12-1pm
June 30, 5-6pm *Note new date

Signups will be in Mockler, these are open agenda meetings with the Dean!

DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL CONVENTION UPDATE
The Dean decided on Friday, May 21 that the SOM should cancel all classes during the week of the Democratic Convention in Boston, which is July 26-29. While students may get into the city for work, she feels that most will have a horrible time coming across the city for class and may have a worse time getting home after class. We polled the faculty teaching that week and the consensus was they were willing to make adjustments if necessary. We also polled the Student Academic Council and they overwhelmingly thought classes should be rescheduled if possible. Faculty teaching that week will have local option on how and when to reschedule classes that week and they will be discussing this issue in your classes either this week or next week. They will also work with me to insure that no students are double-committed on any dates. Hopefully you will agree that the rescheduling complications this decision will cause for everyone is an easier problem to handle than classes that week!!
