REMINDER: CLASS OF 2005
Remember to vote for the 2005 Class Gift for the Simmons SOM. This is an important decision for our class, as it will set our legacy for many years to come. All members of the class of 2005 should have received an email containing a link to the 2005 class gift opportunity survey from Amy Bodow, in the SOM development office, on Friday, June 10th. If you did not receive an email, please follow up with Amy at amy.bodow@simmons.edu or 617.521.3838 so you can be included. All votes must be received by Friday, June 17th, and will be kept confidential. The gift opportunity that receives the most votes will become our class gift, and we will announce our class's decision by email next week.

Thank you for voting!

STUDENT SATISFACTION SURVEY
I am proud to announce that we have achieved a 68% response rate on our SOM Student Services Survey. Thanks so much for your feedback and your support. As promised, there is a bag of candy in your mailbox. If, for some reason, there is no candy in your mailbox, please visit us in the MBA Office for a replacement.

QUOTES OF THE WEEK
I have to thank Alison Snow who sent me a ton of great quotes!! If you have quotes you love that I could apply to the MBA program, send them along!! Thanks! Mary D

"Don't let the fear of the time it will take to accomplish something stand in the way of your doing it. The time will pass anyway."--Earl Nightingale

"You have to decide what your highest priorities are and have the courage -- pleasantly, smilingly, non-apologetically -- to say "no" to other things. And the way you do that is by having a bigger "yes" burning inside."--Stephen Covey

REGISTRATION
Some folks are finding the course synopsis confusing around the start/end dates for each course, so we will resend it today under separate cover with that changed for easier reading! Registration opens Monday at 8am, and remember that Public Speaking only has 17 slots, so if you are interested in that course, you might want to think about registering early!

TEMPORARY JOB
The Dean's office is looking for a student interested in doing data entry for a short term data entry project. Data entry skills on Access as well as experience with web-based data management systems are required. Please email Mary D if you are interested at mary.dutkiewicz@simmons.edu. The job will start immediately!

ATTENTION CLASS of 2005: JOIN SIMMONS SOM eGROUP
This SOM alumnae e-group is open to students in the June prior to their graduation.

Stay in Touch with Alumnae without Leaving Your Desk!

Wish you could stay in touch with other alumnae from the convenience of your own desk? Then join the lively email discussion group of SOM alumnae. It's moderated, in a low-key minimal way, by Peg Kelley '88. The group now has more than 150 members, and all SOM alumnae are invited! Current students may subscribe in the June before graduation. Topics include job opportunities, events of interest to alumnae and working women, requests for information, news of business funding options...and more. How to join? Go to http://www.yahoo.com and click on Groups/Clubs in the "connect" area toward the top of the home page. This will bring you to a page that says, "What is a Group?" and "Join a Group." Under "Join a Group" enter simmonssom (all lowercase and no spaces) and select search. Now you will be at our group page. If you're already a member of Yahoo, then just click "sign in" on the upper right. If you're not a member of Yahoo, click on "register" on the upper right, and enter the requested information. It's FREE. You will then be admitted to the list. Peg will send you a welcome note to confirm your subscription. (It takes more words to describe the process than time to do it!) If you have any questions or difficulty subscribing, contact Peg at 617.926.4845 or via email at kelley@facplus.com.

GRADUATION UPDATES
We are thrilled to announce that Paula Sneed, Sr. Vice President of Global Marketing Resources for Kraft Foods, Inc. will be the Simmons School of Management 2005 graduation speaker on Friday, August 5.

Ms. Sneed is responsible for leading Kraft’s 700+ Global Marketing Services organization that ensures world-class marketing, including advertising, media, promotions, digital and interactive marketing, CRM, packaging, marketing research and other marketing disciplines for more than 100 major food brands. Kraft Foods markets food and beverage brands including Kraft cheese, Jacobs and Maxwell House coffees, Nabisco cookies and crackers, Philadelphia cream cheese, Oscar Mayer meats, Post cereals, and Milka chocolates in more than 150 countries.

OPERATIONS UPDATES

Renovations
5th floor kitchen offices are being constructed, demolition in the old MBA offices has begun for the new library, carpet has been installed to the Green Room level in the 411 building.

Parking
Please remember that there is officially NO student parking at the SOM. We are about to lose up to 6 spaces for construction starting as early as June 15, and but particularly during the weekday hours of 8:30-6pm, Monday-Friday, parking will be even tighter than it has ever been before. Cars will be towed unless you are on the parking grid in the Operations office or have had special permission in writing by the MBA office. Please call Karen at x3821 if you have an extenuating circumstance. On the weekends, we do not enforce the no parking policy for students, but there are many classes scheduled on Saturdays during the summer and spaces are very limited.

409 Elevator Status and Alternate Route to the 5th floor Caseroom
It appears that the motor has suffered some serious damage in its latest set of problems and will be unavailable indefinitely. For those of you needing/wanting elevator access, go to the 407 building (behind the front desk) and take the elevator to the 5th floor. Weave around and you will come in the opposite side of the 5th floor caseroom entrance (behind the chalkboard!)

SOM in the News

HEAR YOUR FELLOW STUDENT ON WBUR!!
Zuania Pomales, a current day student was interviewed on WBUR and her segment aired last week.
She was part of an interview on why women of color graduates are leaving Boston. She mentions the SOM too!! Read more here->

Simmons faculty and students were well represented with four presentations at the Babson-Kauffman Entrepreneurship Research Conference:

Fiona Wilson, Jill Kickul, and Deborah Marlino presented their paper, "Is The Pipeline Of Future Entrepreneurs Strong Or Weak? - Using A Longitudinal Approach To Examine The Role Of Perceptions And Self-efficacy In Generating Entrepreneurial Intentions Among Young Women And Men." In addition, Jill and Fiona (in partnership with colleagues from the University of Bodo, Norway) presented their paper, "Across Cultural And Economic Boundaries: Modeling Cognitions, Norms, And Motivations Onto Entrepreneurial Self-efficacy And Intentionality."

Lindsay Titus ('05), Jill Kickul, and Patrick Murphy (DePaul University), using some of the recent research from the Panel Survey of Entrepreneurial Dynamics (PSED) presented a paper on "Contextualizing Legitimacy, Risk Preference, and Social Capital For Women Entrepreneurs." Also, in partnership with Norris Krueger (Boise State University) and as a follow-up to the work by Laney Whitcanack ('05) and Jill on entrepreneurial cognition, a talk was given on "Choice Modeling Of Venture Preferences: The Impact Of Mental Prototyping."

Finally, Laney Whitcanack and Jill Kickul are collaborating on an international study with Alain Fayolle, E.M. Lyon, France, Benoît Gailly, Université Catholique de Louvain, and Nargisse Lassas-Clerc, E.M. Lyon and will be presenting their work at the International Conference of Small Business and Entrepreneurship (ICSB Conference) on "Capturing Variations in Attitudes and Intentions: A Longitudinal Study to Assess the Pedagogical Effectiveness of Entrepreneurship Teaching Programs." This paper and line of research coincides nicely with our recent grant award under the Coleman Foundation's Entrepreneurship Excellence in Teaching Colleges program.
