SOM in the News

The SOM August commencement ceremonies and featured speaker Marie Wilson were featured in the Boston Sunday Globe's Out in the Field section in the August 15 edition. Wilson, president of The White House Project, former president of the Ms. Foundation, and leader of the Take Our Daughters to Work Day, spoke about the importance of women taking on leadership positions, both in business and in politics.

In addition to the Boston Sunday Globe, Wilson also was interviewed for the August 6-8 edition of Boston Metro and on WBIX-AM Boston on August 6 about her commencement message.

SOM Professor and CGO faculty affiliate Stacy Blake-Beard and CGO Senior Research Faculty Evangelina Holvino authored the article "Women Discussing Their Differences: A Promising Trend," which appeared in the Summer 2004 issue of The Diversity Factor. The article discusses the importance of conferences, such as the SOM/CGO/Working Mother Media Professional Women of Color Conference held at Simmons College on May 6, that bring women of color together to dialogue, network, and develop skills and strategies to enhance their advancement and organizational contributions.

Catherine Beyer Hurst, Director of the Undergraduate Management Program, was quoted in the August 8 edition of the Boston Herald. In the article "This guy's so dreamy!" about a huggable "boyfriend pillow" marketed toward women, Hurst says the cost of the Japanese product $111 is too high to be a gag gift, and appears to be marketed to the 45-plus age group.
