Preservation of documentary heritage materials

Ross Harvey's interest in preservation stems from a period of employment in 1986-1987 as the National Library of New Zealand's first Newspaper Librarian, when he became aware of the significant issues associated with paper deterioration. Since then he has researched into and published widely about the preservation of documentary heritage materials. Recently his interests have focussed on the preservation of documentary heritage materials in digital format, and in particular on selection and appraisal aspects.

Ross Harvey's books about preservation are:

  • Preserving Digital Materials (Munich: K.G. Saur, 2005)
  • Preservation for Australian and New Zealand Libraries: Principles, Strategies and Practices for Librarians, 2nd ed. (Wagga Wagga: Centre for Information Studies, Charles Sturt University, 1993)
  • Preservation in Libraries: Principles, Strategies and Practices for Librarians (London: Bowker-Saur, 1993)
  • Preservation in Libraries: A Reader (London: Bowker-Saur, 1993)
