In 1997 after I graduated from Simmons College School of Social Work, I quickly discovered that my educational experience at Simmons prepared me well to embark on a career of providing advocacy to survivors of domestic violence. Much of my clinical experience occurred at Children's Hospital, Boston, where I spent nearly decade learning and growing, from Social Work intern, to the Clinical Coordinator of the AWAKE Project, a broad-based domestic violence program. Our practice was grounded in the theoretical tenets of safety and empowerment.
As I have followed my passion in various employment positions, I have worked with adolescent girls and women who present with a range of issues related to trauma. I have served in the capacity as an individual therapist, group facilitator and/or advocate. Additionally, my practice has often called for the ability to interface with multiple disciplines, navigate social service systems, and collaborate as a team player for a client's health and well-being. All social work skills, when blended together, make change possible. These skills combined with several years experience supervising MSW interns, along with an ongoing commitment and desire to expand my professional lens, brought forth my return to Simmons.
In the fall of 2006, I joined the Adjunct Faculty in the Field Education Department. As an Academic Advisor and Field Liaison, my primary focus has been collaborating with students, field supervisors, and academic instructors, in an effort to support students as they achieve their academic goals and discover the field of social work. In the few years that I have been at Simmons, both as an adjunct and full-time faculty, my life has been enriched helping students find their way.
