My relationship with Simmons started in 1994 when I first served as a field instructor for the School of Social Work, a relationship that continued for more than a decade. I joined the SSW full-time in the Field Education Department in 2005 with a mission to work primarily with our Extended Program students. I am honored to be working closely with these students who are committed to earning the MSW despite managing significant concurrent commitments in their work and personal lives. In this role, my priority is to help students make decisions that foster academic success and self-care and to support program development that is responsive to the EP student population and our agency partners.
My professional social work experience includes more than a decade at Salem State College, Counseling & Health Services, as a clinician, administrator and director of training; City Year where I was involved in program development, community service and youth development; Roxbury Youthworks, Inc., working with juveniles and their families in Juvenile Services of the Roxbury District Court and Outreach & Tracking in the community; and at the Dimock Community Health Center where I provided home-based services to an at-risk population of pregnant and parenting women.
In addition to being an educator, my primary professional interest is clinical practice, especially working with young adults and adults around family of origin issues, ethnic and racial identity, adoption, and mood disorders.
