New
Technologies You Need to Know PREVIEW
Log-in at your convenience.
Blogs, RSS, Wikis, IM, Podcasting, Mash-ups, Tagging, Mobile, Web 2.0. Curious about the latest trends in technology affecting our library and information settings? Been wondering about library uses of Facebook and MySpace? Interested in how YouTube and SecondLife are reaching new audiences? Even if you do not own a PDA or do not want to search the library on your “smart” phone, odds are you have patrons who do. Even if you have not set up an account at Flickr, Furl, or del.icio.us, you can benefit from seeing the innovative applications of libraries that have. This workshop will explain these new and emerging technologies in plain English, and explore their practical and creative applications for libraries. The course is divided into a series of self-paced learning modules, allowing you to complete the course in any sequence and at your convenience. A blog permits interchange between participants. You will need a computer with Internet access and Adobe Acrobat to complete this course.

About this course:
You can login as many times as you wish during the month the course is scheduled to run.
The course is divided into a series of learning modules, allowing you to complete the course in any sequence and in the time frame of your choice. You can do the course in one sitting, a single module at a time, or as many in a row as makes sense for your preferred learning style.
About the Learning Modules:Each Learning Module contains three sections: Overview, Apply It, and More Information.
The Overview gives you an introduction and "taste" of the topic. I have made these Adobe Acrobat PDF files, because that is generally the easiest for people to download. You will need the Adobe Acrobat Reader plug-in to view or print. If you experience any problems downloading these files, please see Help with PDFs.
Each topic also includes at least one Apply It exercise, which has you apply the materials you've just read about and seen in the Overview.
More Information links to additional content available on the Web. Often these are longer, more comprehensive presentations or readings that I consider to be among the best and/or most current on the topic. You can continue your learning at a deeper level through the links, depending on how thoroughly you want to know the module subject - a taste or a full meal!
