Cornell, Mann Library http://www.library.cornell.edu/EMPSL/PDA-pilot-report.pdf http://mobile.mannlib.cornell.edu/about.html	Michelle Paolillo, Systems and Network Support Specialist, Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences Library is investigating the transfer of data from public kiosks to the user's handheld via IR beaming, described in: Beam-using possibilities: Infrared beaming for the Library's clientele, Library Hi-Tech News, LHTN, vol. 19 #10, 2002/03 Librarians at Cornell University's Mann Library are also investigating traditional library databases and PDA accessibility. In the first phase of their PDA project, the Mobile Mann Computing Group at Cornell created a process for converting files from EndNote, a popular bibliographic citation manager, to Jfile, a simple Palm OS database program. Michael Cook and Jim Morris-Knower are now spearheading the second phase of the project, a test of how traditional library databases accessed through aggregators such as Proquest or Silverplatter function on wireless devices and PDAs. Testing is on Palm OS PDAs, using three different browsers: Avantgo, Blazer, and EudoraWeb. They are comparing accessibility, images, navigation and performance of forms for each site. The project was completed at the end of the Spring 2003 semester.
