Post a File

If possible, first convert any Word or PowerPoint files to PDF before posting them to Moodle. This makes it easier for students to access the files.

  1. From the upper right of the Moodle course, click Turn editing on.
  2. In the section from where you would like to link your file, from the Add a resource drop-down menu, choose Link to a file or website. The Editing Resource screen will open.
  3. Give your file a name (this will be visible to students).
  4. Under Link to a file or web site, click Choose or upload a file. The Files window will open.
  5. Click Upload a file.
  6. Click Choose file or Browse. A file search window will open.
  7. Locate the file on your computer. Click Choose or Open.
  8. On the Files window, click Upload this file. The file will now appear in your Files list.
  9. Next to the file, click Choose. You will be returned to the Editing Resource screen.
  10. At the bottom of the screen, click Save and return to course. The link to your file will now appear in the course section.

You can always access any file you have uploaded to your Moodle course by going to Files in the Administration block.

Large files

Consider hosting large files (audio, video, and some image and PowerPoint files) outside of Moodle.

Hosting large files outside of Moodle helps us save space on our servers and is much appreciated!

It also means when you re-use a Moodle course, you do not create duplicate copies of large files.

Please see Hosting Large Files for suggestions.
