Organize Your Course Sections

Your Moodle course is divided into large blocks called Sections that are listed sequentially down the middle column of your Moodle course homepage. You can add content, images, links, assignments, and more to each Moodle section.

Moodle Layout

By default, your course is divided into weekly sections beginning on the first day of the term. You can customize these settings.

To change the date of your first section:

  1. From the Administration block, click Settings.
  2. From the Course start date drop-down menu, choose the appropriate dates.
  3. Click Save changes.

To change from a Weekly format to a Topics format:

  1. From the Administration block, click Settings.
  2. From the Format drop-down menu, choose Topics format (or another format as appropriate).
  3. Click Save changes.

To change the number of sections:

  1. From the Administration block, click Settings.
  2. From the Number of weeks/topics drop-down menu, choose the number of sections you want to appear.
    Note: The number of sections will be in addition to the "header" section that appears by default in every Moodle course.
  3. Click Save changes.
