EXPERIENCE
Assistant Professor of Chemistry, Simmons College, Boston, MA, 1994- present
Teaching responsibilities include organic chemistry I and II, advanced organic chemistry, and independent research. Research interests are synthesis of biologically active compounds and development of new synthetic methodology to medium size lactams.
Postdoctoral Fellow, M.I.T., 1993-1994.
Research involved enantioselective reduction of enamines and kinetic resolution of imines using a chiral titanium catalyst.
Research Assistant, Brown University, 1990-1993.
Diastereoselective syntheses of b-hydroxyacids were studied using acyloxysilanes as precursors in aldol reactions. A vitamin D3 metabolite and analogues were synthesized using a novel route to the A ring. The metabolite and analogues were shown to be active in cell differentiation assays.
Teaching Assistant, Brown University, 1989-1990.
Supervised sophomore level organic chemistry laboratory sections. Prepared and presented review sessions.
Associate Chemist, Wyeth-Ayerst Research, 1986-1989.
Devised and executed multistep synthesis of various novel organic targets which were active in anti-ulcer, anxiolytic, and excitatory amino acid antagonist programs. The synthesis of seventy-five novel compounds resulted in three patents and two publications.
Staff Chemist, Merck Sharp & Dohme Labs., 1985-1986.
Quality control and on-line searching of in-house compound database.
