When Bonnie Peirce LS'03 looked at public libraries, she saw that their organizational structure was becoming increasingly insufficient. She decided to change things. Library Journal recognized her efforts by naming her to its 2007 list of Movers and Shakers. She certainly is a mover—and she has been organizing people worldwide to move with her.

Bonnie founded the Library Goddesses Blog Network in the fall of 2006. She sees it as "a beginning vehicle for conversation, sharing, and collaboration—an open network to share the best practices, research, and thoughts of our profession 24/7 worldwide." By creating an online network that's member-driven and always available, she hopes librarians will collaborate to bring new energy to public libraries. Right now, there are more than 180 members scattered through all 50 states and Canada.

She also helped create Global Library 2.0 Week, which will happen from July 22-28, 2007. She said, "I imagine it will be the first of many such weeks as librarians and libraries around the world start to create new networks and platforms for knowledge, information, and culture." She invites everyone to participate however they can: "bring what you can, share what you know, build something cool, collaborate on a longer-range project . . . you decide." She sees the week as a chance for libraries to consider a global future and for people to be active and creative in a worldwide network. Bonnie, a GSLIS alum, is the Head of Children's Services at the Dover Town Library. She also teaches CE classes for Simmons. Keep an eye out around Simmons and online to see what she will move onto next!
