Summer Travel Course to Yonsei University
Simmons will offer a 2 week travel course to Yonsei University. Two courses will be offered:
- LIS 404 - Principles of Management
- LIS 475 - Organizational/Information Ethics
Both courses will be team taught with Lisa Hussey.
Credits: 3-6 Simmons GSLIS credits; students can take either one, or both courses
- Pre-departure meeting: Spring 2012, TBA
- Arrive in Seoul: July 27, 2012
- Course dates: July 30 - August 10, 2012
- Depart Seoul: August 11, 2012
Program Requirements
- At least 12 credits completed in an accredited LIS program
- Must currently be in good academic standing
Program Highlights
- Participants will take the class with students from Yonsei University
- Site visits to academic, public, and national libraries
- Excursions to national historic sites, including Changdeokgung Palace
Course schedule
- Class will be in session Monday – Friday
- 32 hours of class time plus 8 hours of site visits per week
- Site visits to area libraries will take place in the afternoon on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
- Management (LIS 404) will be offered July 30 - August 3
- Organizational/Information Ethics (LIS 475) will be offered August 6 - August 10

Housing
- Shared accommodations in Yonsei dormitory
- Linens will be provided, but no towels
Financial Aid
- Students must be enrolled in a minimum of two courses to be eligible for financial aid.
- This can be either a summer semester course & one of the courses offered at Yonsei, or both travel courses.
- In the past, students have taken out loans to cover travel courses.
Application procedure
- 1. February 10, 2012 - Submit GSLIS Travel Course Application to Clare Davitt at gslisfellow@simmons.edu for acceptance into the course
- 2. February 24, 2012– Acceptance decisions will be made, applicants will be notified via email soon after
- 3. Submit your completed Study Abroad application and $400 deposit to the Study Abroad office no later than March 16, 2012.
- April 6, 2012 - 50% of the balance due
- May 4, 2012 - 50% of the balance due
