B. Lynch Artist Statement: Fool for Art
My art is about folly and the human condition. It is like a blowsy woman of a certain age in too tight shoes, dressed two sizes too small. Like the opera, life isn’t over until she sings. And when she sings she might break glass, wreck the stage or take us to an emotional place we’ve never been. It is not slick, sleek, or cool. It is hot, chafing and real. Folly is human nature in all its wackiness, dark grotesqueness and beauty. I work in multimedia combining video and sound featuring my hand-made performing objects and my paintings. I often perform in my work. I am a fool for art. The fool is a paradox of multi-dimensions—an innocent, a trickster and always on the borders of chaos and order.
