An essential "About Me" photo. Here, you can see me posing in front of a giant inflatable owl. That is Nestor, Westfield State University's mascot.
I am a thirty-five-year-old (as of December 2023) graduate student in my first semester at Simmons University studying under the Library and Information Science Department and Archives Management specialization. I did not start my journey into academia as a traditional student. After high school, I worked various part-time and minimum-wage jobs for eight years. While I was happy with the work experience, I knew I wanted more out of my life and thus decided to start my university journey. I began at Holyoke Community College (HCC) and received my Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts and Science. I loved it there. I realized that professors at a community college can be some of the most passionate and caring professors one can come across. And I certainly didn’t feel out of place being twenty-six at the time when I was surrounded by quite a few adults much older than myself. From HCC, I transferred to Westfield State University, and in 2022, I received my Bachelor of Arts in History. Thus, here I am today, in my first year of graduate school, pursuing a dream of mine to work in an archive!
My hobbies and passions are admittedly nerdy in nature. I have played video games ever since I was gifted a Super Nintendo as a child. I have also been heavily into computers and tinkering with electronics since adolescence. I’ve built quite a few of my computers and attempted to create quite a few basic websites over the years—even owning a fair share of dot com addresses. Unfortunately, none of my websites ever became that successful. I was doing it more for the experience and enjoyment of setting up my own Virtual Private Server with a flavor of Debian or Fedora Linux, installing Apache or an NGINX web server, MySQL, and creating my website from scratch. I haven’t had much time to play with websites for a long time due to having a full-time job at a campus bookstore and being a graduate student, so I am thrilled to get my feet with websites again for this final project for LIS 0488.
Thank you for visiting my website and learning more about me!
