About this site

This site is intended as a guide to informational resources on the world-wide web for those who, because of age-related concerns, are entering a care-giving or receiving relationship. The purpose of this site is not to suggest specific service or product providers, but to highlight sources for information by which individuals can make knowledgeable decisions.

The links on this site have been divided into several areas of general importance. Nothing in life divides up so neatly and the issues of care for elders are particularly hard to separate from each other. Consequently within these pages the same resources may be useful and even referenced in more than one place. In particular, the web resources listed on this page are excellent places to start even in a search for specific information.

General Resources

ElderWeb This is an indispensable site, with annotated references to resources for all aspects of life as we age. In addition the site carries reliable exclusive content and has an email newsletter associated with it. Ironically, the site designer's dedication to accessibility may create problems for Netscape users, especially those with older versions of the browser.

AARP The largest advocacy group for the aging in the country. A site with information on all aspects and concerns of life for those growing older.

FirstGov for Seniors "FirstGov" is the U.S. Government's initiative for outreach to citizens through the web. FirstGov for Seniors is the subset of this overall web portal that has been designed for the concerns and opportunities of those who are aging. Although the primary purpose of the site is to present information on federal government initiatives, programs, and resources, the site designers have also selected and evaluated private websites as well as provided links to state government agencies.

Administration on Aging The Administration on Aging is a provider of core services for the aging, emphasizing those with especial social/economic needs. The Administration supports the Eldercare locator, a national service for identifying local and community-based services for the elderly.

Resources for Massachusetts Elders In particular, see the list of local area information centers designated by the Massachusetts Executive office of Elder Affairs for which agency this site currently functions as the web presence.

Boston ElderINFO The web outreach for the ElderCare Alliance, a nonprofit collaboration of three Boston-area agencies, Boston Senior Home Care, Central Boston Elder Services, and Ethos. Information is centered on but not limited to the Boston area.
