LIS 462 - Assignments

General

The breakdown of grade points goes like this

30%: In small groups (and I will assign people to groups), you will explore and give a presentation on an assigned topic related to hybrid and digital libraries (Assignment 1).
30%: In small groups (I will assign those too) you will explore and give a presentation on an assigned digital library or an assigned digital library research project (Assignment 2).
35%: You will contribute in a timely manner to collective digital library creation (including feedback on various aspects when requested).
5%: My discretion (progress, etc.).

Since some of your assignments will involve reference to Web pages, please be very careful to enter URLs correctly (including the http://). For print and electronic citations and references, use the APA style manual (see Style manuals et al.).

Digital library creation

You will be a member of a digital library committee, and collectively we will take a small project from planning through to creation, ready to be put on the Web. Team members will be responsible for various aspects of the project, including architecture (database, search engine), technology (servers, etc.), metadata (descriptive, administrative, processing, preservation), rights management, interface design, environmental scanning, content preparation and digitization, evaluation, and so on. We will have committee meetings and also activities. I will be the convener to begin with.
