RECENT NEWS/EVENTS

The SCoSAA site visit to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Librarywas on Friday, November 17th. Students toured the processing and audiovisual archives, and had the opportunity to talk with archivists at the library.

The SCoSAA archives and records management career panel was held on November 30th, from 6-8pm in the Kotzen Center. Speakers included Nora Murphy (current president of the New England Archivists and reference archivist at MIT), Joanie Gearin (archivist at the NARA Northeast Branch in Waltham, Martha Mahard (Simmons visiting faculty), and James Roth (archivist, John F. Kennedy Presidential Library.

ARMA Scholarship

ARMA International has announced a scholarship of $3,000 to second-year graduate students interested in the field of records and information management. Please visit the ARMA International Education Foundation website for further details.

Society of American Archivists

The annual meeting of SAA was in Washington, D.C. from July 30-August 6th. The meeting was combined for the first time with NAGARA and CoSA, and a number of Simmons students, faculty, and alumni attended. Stay tuned for pictures from SAA!

-Susanne Belovari from Tufts University gave a wonderful talk to Simmons SCoSAA and SIR (Simmons International Relations) students on Thursday April 27th about international librarianship and her experiences working with Holocaust collections in Vienna.

-The Howard Lowell Lecture held on April 5th was a collaboration between Harvard Medical School's Countway Library and Simmons SCoSAA. Simmons GSLIS alum Howard Lowell is the Deputy Assistant Archivist, Records Services, NARA. The topic of Mr. Lowell's presentation was "Redesigning Records Management for the Electronic Environment: current developments at the National Archives." For those who missed the lecture, Mr. Lowell's PowerPoint presentation is available here as a .pdf file, and a short video clip regarding the Electronic Records Archives (ERA), is available online through the NARA- ERA site.
