NEA/SCoSAA Job Shadow Program
In Spring 2009, NEA (New England Archivists) and SCoSAA teamed up for the first Archives Job Shadow Program! The program presented opportunities for students to visit a repository for a half or full day and experience a "day in the life" of an archivist or records manager. Any GSLIS student who wanted to learn more about the archives profession could participate. Any interested archivist or records manager could host. The host could set up a small project or activity for the student, or provide resume and career advice.
Program outline
- Students and repositories registered during February; they were informed of their match during the first week of March.
- Once a student had the contact information of their host, they were responsible for calling and scheduling a visit. Students were asked to schedule their appointment by March 15, visiting their repository during March or April.
What are the benefits?
- Archivists and records managers have the opportunity to share their expertise with current students.
- Students have the opportunity to experience the inner workings of an archives and learn more about the profession.
