There is no midterm nor final exam for this course. The class contains multiple in-class exercises, assignments and projects. Dialog assignments will be distributed at the end of a class session, and will due the next class session. Check course schedule for the due dates.

Note: Without proper excuse, late assignments would get 5 points deducted per day after the due day.

II. Projects and Participation: (45%)

 

  1. System Comparison Project: 12%
      For this project, you will be conducting searches on a pair of systems and making comparisons of them based on the search results:
      One electronic database (the target systems) made available through CUA library system (e.g., Arts & Humanities Citation Search in OCLCFirstSearch, or ERIC in SilverPlatter WebSPIRS) and the same databases in Dialog

    Details will be available on the project sheet.

     

  2. Client Search Project: 23% During the semester, you will be conducting real searches for a client (a faculty memeber from Catholic University) on one or more databases of Dialog, lexis/nexis, factiva, or other electronic database systems.
    Details will be available on the project sheet.

     

  3. Class Participation and Presentation: 10%
