The Access to Electronic Legal Information Committee is a subgroup of the
American Association of Law Librarians. The purpose of the website is to help
the legal community improve the transmission of legal documents via the
Internet. One drawback to the website is that it provides a lot of
information that seems to be irrelevant.
The purpose of this organization is to discover new and innovative ways to
improve access to information. This organization's website does not provide a
lot of articles about digital libraries. What it lacks in articles, it makes
up for in informative presentations and conferences.
The purpose of this organization is to provide better access to legal
materials. The website lists various committees that are devoted to the
advancement of technology. The committees,however, are not listed on the main
web page.
The ALA is the largest and oldest library association in the world. The
website provides a lot of information regarding library services. Most of the
information regarding digital libraries consists of conferences and
presentations.
The DLF provides information about new developments in technology. This
website provides information about the development and preservation of digital
collections. A novice may feel overwhelmed by the volume of information.
This website offers a countless number of resources regarding digital
libraries. It contains a vast number of presentations about digital
libraries. The website also contains very technical terms and definitions.
The website contains an in-depth article about the development of digital
libraries. The articles examine how well a print library will translate into
electronic information. The article is somewhat technical for the beginning
library student unfamiliar to computer terms.
This website gives a good explanation of what a digital library is. It
also gives the advantages and disadavantages of converting to a digital
library. This article mentions a lot new operational systems that may be
unfamiliar to the new computer student.
This website contains introductory papers about digital libraries. It
gives a good in-depth timeline on the development of digital libraries. The
website neglects to examine how the cited events have contributed to the
development of digital libraries.
This website discusses the development of commercial digital libraries.
The article describes how people and organizational structures are driving
digital libraries into the mainstream. The graph on the website is not very
helpful.

author gives some practical advice on how libraries can pay for this new type

website is that it is not easy to find the journal articles.

have been better if it focused on one topic instead of so many digital

other websites. The definitions are concise. The website, however takes
several seconds to load.
For this website, you have the option of looking up a single definition or
conducting a keyword search. The definitions are easy to understand. Some of
the definitions have not been updated recently.
The website contains terminology related to digital libraries. The
website contains a wide range of topics. Some end users might consider some
material irrelvant.
OpenDLib is a software toolkit that helps information centers create
digital libraries. The software was created with the international
cooperation and collaboration of international IT experts, librarians, and
private companies. I wanted to try out the software online, but it was
difficult to figure out.
The Center for the Study of Digital Libraries (CSDL) was established in
1995 by The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents. It provides
assistance in transferring library collections to digital material. The CSDL
website does not provide any examples of its work.
Nancy Kranich writes an article about the development of digital
libraries. She believes that libraries need to build a bridge between
traditional and digital libraries. Throughout the article, Kranich stresses
what libraries need to do but fails to tell how libraries should go about
building the bridge.

libraries. The website deals with the National Digital Information
Infrastructure and Preservation Program led by the Library of Congress. The
focus of the program is primarily with government libraries.
The website contains a list of digital projects throughout the world. The
website contains different examples of digital projects. The website,
however, does not include how the websites were developed.
Lyman discusses digital libraries as social institutions. He also
explores how intellectual property influences digital libraries. He states
that digital libraries must find a way to archive and preserve materials but
fails to give suggestions.
Smith writes an in-depth article on building solid digitized collections.
The article covers everything from preservation to infrastructure needs. The
article focus is primarily for research libraries.
The author focuses on the problem of distribution and archiving of
information. For this paper, the authors explain the critical stages of web
design. The authors names six areas of research, but does not provide a lot
of analysis on how to deal with the problems of digital libraries.
