Instructions for Alternative Equitable Assignments

Simmons College Department of Psychology

If you are taking a psychology course in which 1) participation in research-related activities is required or 2) extra credit is offered for volunteering to participate in a research study, you may substitute an alternative equitable assignment instead of participating in a research study. If you have any questions about this policy and how it applies to your specific course, please consult the memo entitled "Details of research participation policy for students" that you should have received at the beginning of the semester and your course syllabus.

Step 1:

Select one of the articles below and download it. You are free to preview as many as you wish before selecting one to read.

Brain Plasticity

Tricks of Memory

Creating Normative Messages to Protect the Environment

Gender Differences in Depression

Malicious Serpent

Role of Prenatal Maternal Stress in Child Development

Step 2:

Download and print this document. It contains instructions on how to complete this assignment and serves as the coversheet, which is required when you submit the written portion of this assignment. If you are planning to do more than one alternative equitable assignment, please use a separate coversheet for each assignment you complete.

Step 3:

Read the instructions on the document you have just printed. Fill in the requested information and then begin reading the article and responding to the questions. Your responses must be hand-written. Please note: typed or illegible papers, those without a coversheet, and those that are not stapled will not be accepted.

Step 4:

Once you have completed the assignment, please submit it to the Psychology Departments Main Office (Park Science Center Rm S-173). DO NOT SUBMIT THIS ASSIGNMENT TO YOUR COURSE INSTRUCTOR.  Once your assignment has been received and reviewed, we will notify your instructor so that she or he can award you the appropriate amount of credit. Please note: the process of notifying your instructor can take a few weeks.
