Unit 1: Introduction and Environments

The various settings in which information is organized for posterity are examined in this unit.

  • Is there a basic human need to organize?
  • Why do we organize?
  • What is organization of information?
  • How is it approached in different types of environments (e.g., libraries [including various types], archives, museums, art galleries, digital libraries, your own workspace, and the Internet)?
  • What is the difference between information and knowledge?
