Introducing Lydia Hardy

Posted November 19th, 2013

We're pleased to announce that we finally have a new Assistant Lab Manager on staff. Lydia Hardy will be taking over the day to day lab operations. If you see her around the labs, go ahead and say hi. She's very friendly as it turns out.

Lydia attended Simmons from 2007-2011 as a Graphic Design and Studio Art major. During her time as a student, Lydia served as a Lab Monitor and TA for Intro to Graphic Design, and like most comm majors spent most of her days (and nights!) working tirelessly on projects in the lab. As a senior, Lydia worked as a designer on the 2011 edition of Commtracks, designing many of the spreads in the magazine and the cover that hangs in the hallway of the department.

After graduation, Lydia became the graphic design manager for a small consulting company in Wellesley, MA, where she managed a wide variety of projects, ranging from print and web design, to video production, social media and desktop publishing. She worked there for 2 1/2 years before returning to Simmons this fall as the Assistant Lab Manager.

OMG Where Are My Files!

Posted September 13th, 2013

A monkey making a very surpised face

Did you come back this semester only to find that your CommLab files were missing?

Don't worry, your files are most likely safe. Over the summer we made some changes to how the lab computers work and had to move files around. Read on for instructions on how to recover your files.

Screenshot of the home directory icon How to access files from your old CommLab home folder

If you saved lots of files in your CommLab home folder last year, you can still access them.

My Folder on BigFileVault Disappeared Over the Summer

Did you know that as part of our routine server maintenance that we clean out all the file servers over the summer? We have to do this in order to ensure that there is enough space for the coming semesters.

Don't panic. We keep backups of all removed student files for a semester. So, if you need something that was removed, contact commlab@simmons.edu to ask for it to be restored.

What you need to know:

  • What volume were your files stored on? (BigFileVault, Vol3, etc.)
  • What was the name of the folder or files.
