Grandma Mummaw's Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups light brown sugar
  • 1 cup Butter & Crisco
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg


These cookies are great to bring to a party and share! This recipe is vegetarian and nut-allergy friendly, but it is not vegan or gluten free.


Instructions

  1. Sift together flour, baking soda, baking powder and nutmeg into a separate bowl.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the sugar, eggs, and butter/Crisco.
  3. Alternate adding the flour mixture and buttermilk to the sugar and eggs, beginning with the flour and
  4. ending with the flour.
  5. Drop rounded spoonfuls onto a cookie sheet, approximately 2 inches apart.
  6. Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 9-11 minutes.

This recipe is a Gibson family Christmas tradition passed down for many generations.
