Grandma Mummaw's Sugar Cookies

These cookies are great to bring to a party and share! This recipe is vegetarian and nut-allergy friendly, but it is not vegan or gluten free.
This recipe is a Gibson family Christmas tradition passed down for many generations.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups light brown sugar
- 1 cup Butter & Crisco
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 3 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
Instructions
- Sift together flour, baking soda, baking powder and nutmeg into a separate bowl.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the sugar, eggs, and butter/Crisco.
- Alternate adding the flour mixture and buttermilk to the sugar and eggs, beginning with the flour and
- ending with the flour.
- Drop rounded spoonfuls onto a cookie sheet, approximately 2 inches apart.
- Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 9-11 minutes.
