How to Cut a Bell Pepper

Submitted by Yumna Jawad

Bell peppers are notoriously hard to cut - round on all sides, a huge core in the middle, tiny seeds everywhere - it's difficult to know where to start.
Below, Yumna outlines one method of cutting bell peppers that will make preparing this juicy vegetable easier than ever.

Method

  1. Lay the pepper on its side on a cutting board.
  2. Use a sharp knife, preferably a chef’s knife, to slice off about 1/2” piece from the stem end and another 1/2″ inch from the bottom of the pepper.
  3. Run the knife around the inside of the flesh to remove the core; discard.
  4. Lay the pepper on its side and slice thinly slice into rings.
  5. Rings can be used for a crudité plates or sandwich toppers. They can be fried in an air fryer or make a bold presentation in chilis or ratatouilles.
