Rabbit Care

Habitat

Rabbits are very energetic animals and as such need a lot of space to move around in. Generally, rabbits should have at least 8 sq ft of enclosure space, and at least 24 sq ft of space to exercise (which they should do for at least 5 hours per day).

Because of this, the best enclosure for your rabbit is a pet play pen, coupled with newspaper, toys, a litter box, food, hay, and water. Something spacious that allows for the rabbit to move around.

Their exercise space should also be large, and rabbit proofed. Rabbits love to chew on whatever they find, so moving or covering up wires is important. Further, be mindful if any houseplants that are kept in those rooms. Some plants can be toxic to rabbits such as poinsettia, holly, and tulips. Either remove these plants or keep them on high shelves. Here is a more thorough guide to rabbit proofing your room.

Food

The majority of a rabbit's diet consists of water and hay/grass. This is because their digestive systems need grass/hey to function properly.

Asides from these, the rest of their diet is mostly leafy greens such as romaine lettuce, bok choy, mustard greens, carrot tops, cilantro, watercress, and much more.

Small amounts of fruits and root vegetables such as bananas, apples, strawberries, and carrots can be given every once in a while as a treat (no more than once a day).
