At the end of 2020, I found myself noticing that there were a number of albums that I had heard great things about but I hadn't gotten around to listening to them. The main album that I noticed this for was Lauryn Hill's 1999 classic 'The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.'
Then I had an idea. What if I listened to a new album every day? There are so many albums I haven't heard, and this would be a good way to keep me on track for getting through everything I wanted to in the year.
So I ended up making a list of 365 albums to listen to over the course of 2021. I spent hours going over end of year lists, best album of all time lists, and other sources online to compile my list.
It was a little tough to get into the routine of setting enough time aside each day to listen to a full album, but after a few weeks, I found it to be a nice part of my day where I get to take time for myself and possibly find a new album that I love.
By starting this activity, I was able to find a community of music lovers online to connect with and discover even more new music.
As 2021 drew to a close, I decided that I would keep listening to a new album every day, but I wouldn't plan it out at the start of the year like I had in 2021. This has allowed me more freedom in choosing what to listen to and allows me to work in new releases while still being able to discover older albums without overloading myself.
Starting this journey has been incredibly rewarding and I've found so many new artists to listen to, and older artists that I've discovered that I love.
