Campus Activities Board

Band/Comedy Chair and SAM representative

CAB, the Campus Activities Board, is a fun organization to kick back and begin to learn how school's bring events to their campus. Such events are bands, comedians, speakers, dances, lectures, carnivals, etc...

I am the Band/Comedy Chair, and Student Advisor on Multiculturalism representative for the organization, and am proud of both! As the Band/Comedy Chair, I am the one responsible for bringing the bands and comedians that come to campus and perform at the residence campus's Quadside Cafe and Alumnae Hall. Different recording companies contact me and send me samples of their performers work, and the club as a whole decides on who they like as a whole. After that, I do all the messy work of setting a location, calling for sound equipment, making sure the contract is settled so checks can be processed, making sure facilities brings the equipment for the show, have money for food, and publicize via voicemail, email, and fliers. It's a lot of work, but I love working with these performers.

Being a SAM rep is a bit different in the sense that it's another cultural organization I'm involved in and the purpose of this club is to bring cultural diversity and awareness to the Simmons community as a whole. Representatives are required from each major organization, and we are trained over a two day process, and host workshops for different groups about stereotypes, definitions of words, racism, sexism, ageism, bigotry, etc... It's an intense organization in of itself, but a great club to open your eyes about the world around you.
