Communications |
---|
For some reason I always have been interested in the media. Any particulars? Mainly television and public broadcasting, but then again my interest in the field in general has changed a lot. Yet I knew I wanted to work somehow with the media, so Communications was a must as a major.
There are three different Communications degrees - Graphic Design Communications, Communications, and PR/Mar (Public Relations/Marketing) Communications. Each specific field has a different specific list of classes required for the completion of the major. A lot of the classes cross over from one major into another. I am a regular Communications major, so I don't study any specifics, but rather everything in a general whole. This is a list of the class requirements for the major:
This is the basic order of classes that students generally take, although you're allowed to take classes out of order or not even in this list (those are electives though). I didn't list the Senior level classes since that doesn't really apply to you, the audience, yet. Overall the classes teach you the basics of each area of study. You learn valuable skills for each form of media, and the software that comes along with each career choice.
Communications as a whole is such a fine line of study. I want to
work for WGBH (the station which houses Sesame Street and Arthur) under
the Children's Television Network and either direct or produce a children's
television show. That's my career aspiration, and I know that I'm being
trained well.
