The Bancrofts

The story of John Bancroft gives insight into the politics and culture of New England around the colonial period. A well respected captain during the French and Indian War, the Bancrofts were disgraced in 1776 as traitors to the American revolutionary government for their pro England stance. John Bancroft and his family were confined to their farm and only regained some of his status after the war. Research found that, even long after the war, the Bancrofts were providing information to the English government.
